8DEVICES Introduces New Wi-Fi7 SOM

The brand-new Wi-Fi7 radio companion chip QCN9274 (also from Qualcomm), which supports all three bands 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz, is connected via PCIe.

SOM Kiwi is based on IPQ-9570 Network Processor

Following the successful launch of the Wi-Fi6 SOMs (System on Module) Mango and Cherry, 8DEVICES officially announces the launch of the new Wi-Fi7 SOM, called Kiwi, for this year's Electronica. Kiwi is based on the IPQ-9570 network processor from Qualcomm, which is equipped with four Cortex-A73 @ 2.2GHz (1MB L2 cache) CPUs. The CPUs are supported by 8GB eMMC Flash (optionally expandable up to 64GB) and 1GB LPDDR4X RAM (optionally expandable up to 3GB).

Features

Advanced Connectivity and Multi-Band Support

The brand-new Wi-Fi7 radio companion chip QCN9274 (also from Qualcomm), which supports all three bands 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz, is connected via PCIe. Equipped with four antennas, DBS (Dual Band Simultaneous) operation is possible on 2.4GHz & 5GHz or 2.4GHz & 6GHz, each with two antennas simultaneously, which ends up in 2xMU MIMO 2x2.

The two PHY-MAC interfaces USXGMII support the connection of one 1/2.5/5/10GE Ethernet PHY each and third USXGMII-M supports additionally four 2.5GB Ethernet PHYs. Kiwi also supplies PCIe3.0 (single lane), 2 x PCIe3.0 (dual lane), USB3.0, as well as numerous other serial interfaces and GPIOs.

Kiwi will be available with commercial and industrial temperature ranges and both variants will of course be CE, FCC and IC certified. We expect the first DVKs at the beginning of December 2024.
