Innovative OLED Displays With Capacitive Touch by WISECHIP
Interactivity and Functionality of Very Small Displays
OLED displays and their advantages have been known for a long time. WISECHIP’s integration of capacitive touchscreens into small and very small OLED displays introduces new possibilities by combining interactivity with additional functionality. This opens up innovative application possibilities for the users.

Due to their numerous benefits, small OLED displays are used in a wide range of applications. The featured graphic OLED display, with a diagonal of only 0.96 inches, offers a resolution of 64x128 pixels, achieving an impressive pixel density of 150ppi. OLEDs, compared to TFT displays, offer excellent contrast ratios of up to 10,000:1. This high contrast is achieved through a deep black background, from which the pixels stand out vividly. OLED displays are also extremely thin, as the organic layers are even finer than the silicon layers used in other semiconductors. Since no backlight is required, the pixels themselves emit light, enabling excellent readability from nearly any viewing angle.
A unique feature of this OLED display is its use of an enhanced organic material that is over twice as bright as previous materials. With a peak brightness of an impressive 250cd/m², it remains highly readable even in direct sunlight conditions
The display also stands out for its extremely fast response time of less than 10µs, ensuring quick reactions. Power consumption remains low, as no backlighting is needed. The display is controlled via an SPI interface.
Another innovation is the direct integration of touch functionality. In traditional OLED displays, the capacitive touch sensor is typically mounted onto the display surface using double-sided tape or Optical Clear Adhesive (OCA) film. Here, however, the sensor is embedded directly into the display using In-Cell technology. This approach eliminates the need for an external touch sensor, keeping the display exceptionally thin and lightweight.
The Chip-on-Glass (COG) controller manages both the display and touch sensor functions. Up to four internal touch points can be configured, supporting gestures like "tap," "double tap," "long press," and swipe functionality. Additionally, up to four external touch buttons can be connected.
Both the display and touch interfaces are accessible through a single flexible FPC cable. When this cable is designed to be solderable, it eliminates the need for a separate connector, creating a stable and space-saving connection to the control electronics.
