MP2770: 1-Cell Type-C/PD Charger With Dual-Boost Outputs

The MP2770 from MPS is a highly integrated, flexible, switch-mode battery management device.

Battery Management for Portable Applications by MPS

The MP2770 from MPS is a highly integrated, flexible, switch-mode battery management device with system power path management. It is designed for single-cell Li-ion and Li-polymer batteries used in a wide range of portable applications. The IC has an integrated IN to SYS pass-through path to send input voltage (VIN) to the system even while charging is disabled.

Flexibly Configurable Charging and Boost Parameters

When the input is present, the MP2770 operates in charge mode. The device detects the battery voltage (VBATT) automatically and charges the battery with three phases: pre-charge, constant current fast charge, and constant voltage charge. The MP2770 manages the input and meets the system's power demand priority with the integrated input current limit (IIN_LIMIT) and VIN regulation.

In the absence of the input source, the MP2770 can operate in boost mode to power the IN or SYS pin from the battery. The charge and boost parameters (e.g. input clamp voltage, boost voltage (VBST), current limit (ILIMIT), IIN_LIMIT, charging current, and charge full voltage) can be flexibly configured via the digital interface.

Full safety features include output short-circuit protection (SCP), input over-voltage protection (OVP), battery under-voltage lockout (UVLO) protection, thermal shutdown, and battery temperature monitoring. The MP2770 is available in a small QFN-18 (3x4mm) package.
