XC8114 – Load Switch With Low VF from TOREX
True Reverse-Current Protection
The XC8114 from TOREX is a 3A load switch featuring an integrated ideal-diode function. A truly ideal diode would exhibit a forward voltage (VF) of zero volts and thus no voltage drop – an almost unattainable goal in practical electronics. The XC8114, however, comes remarkably close, enabling exceptionally low-loss and energy-efficient designs.

This IC integrates an ideal diode that achieves an extremely low voltage drop of just 20mV, approximately one-twentieth of the forward voltage of typical Schottky barrier diodes used for reverse-current protection. This significantly improves battery runtime. Despite the very low VF, the reverse current from VOUT to VIN remains at 0μA, fully meeting the characteristics of an ideal diode. This makes the device well suited to implement OR circuits and for reducing power consumption in backup power applications. Versatile Input Voltages in Three Housing Options
The XC8114 is in mass production, and samples or evaluation boards are available from CODICO. It supports input voltages from 1.5V to 6.0V and can deliver up to 3A. Integrated protection features include overcurrent limiting and thermal shutdown. The device is offered in SOT-89-5, WLP-4-04, and DFN1820-6G package options.
